Character Builds Document

This is a list of Optimum Builds for PvP under the Meridian 59 Open Source 103 ruleset. An Optimum Build is a build that maximizes a certain strategy or playstyle. No consideration is made for the difficulty of building or PvPing while incomplete.

All stat suggestions should be considered 'baseline' - every build has variants based on player choice. Some like more Agility, some like more Aim... even certain schools and levels can be changed out. For example, it's entirely reasonable to avoid taking Disarm (level 6 Weaponcraft) on a Pure Fighter to use those 5 Intellect points elsewhere. It's also reasonable to add Riija 3-4, Faren 2-4, or Shal 3 to almost any applicable build.

You will also see many low Might values here due to recent trial stat changes on 103. Currently, Scimitar and Axe bonus damage is based on Agility instead of Might, and Fencing weapons use Aim. Fire and Archery continue to use Aim. Because of these changes, Might has become less 'absolutely required,' and now functions solely as carrying capacity and as the damage bonus for Hammers and Maces. In addition, Conveyance and limitless vaults has lessened the need for carrying capacity while building. However, if you aren't comfortable organizing your inventory with less Might, then feel free to take points from other stats to compensate.

Pure Fighters

Pure Fighters are characters that intend to defeat their enemies solely by the power of Weaponcraft damage. Buffs may be used to assist, and Anti-magic Aura often plays a critical role to remove casting from combat, but the sole source of damage is weapons.

Build Name Schools Mig Int Sta Agi Mys Aim Strategy
Classic Pure Fighter Weaponcraft 6
Kraanan 6
25 10 50 50 15 50 Anti-magic reliant, weapon-based DPS. The classic Pure Fighter steps out, casts Anti-magic Aura (if warranted), and presses 'attack' until the enemy is too stuck with arrows to continue living. If an enemy mage casts Winds, that's fine, the Pure Fighter will whip out a Scimitar or a Mystic Sword and proceed to gather ingredients for mage stew. Another major combat option this character has is Mana Bomb, which will help escape from a CC lock situation. In more recent times many of the pure fighter types will add 2 qor for Kara'hol's curse because of the reduction in the hold time after it falls or is purged for the 1-5 damage bonus and ~300 offense. (drop 5 might if you watch this option for intellect or agil based on player preference) 83 mana with all nodes
Jala Pure Fighter Weaponcraft 5
Kraanan 6
Jala 6
20 30 45 30 25 50 The Jala Pure Fighter is a rare build usually only employed by veterans. This is a character that operates almost exactly like the Classic Pure Fighter, except with one major difference: Jala. Jala has been buffed and it can actually be useful on a real character Finally. Crystallize Mana gives you 20 bonus base mana at 99% as well as a second wind like second mana bar for ~150% of your max mana, however during this time you can no longer regain mana over ~25-30 for ~5minutes. Jala has bane spell for all schools including itself which increase the Fizzle rate of that school as well as spellbane that increase the fizzle rate of all magic cast within its radius. This character can ama, spellbane sacred and profane resonance (anti qor and shal most used) as well as mana bomb as he comes in and still be able to dispel illusions and if needed mana bomb again or then start the ama bane party. You may also drop mys to 15 and raise might or agil based on player preferences. 118 mana with all nodes plus CM

Casting Fighter

The main plan of a Casting Fighter involves weapons, but they also have spell options to support their combat. This is where 'classic cookie cutter' builds are found.

Riija Pure Fighter Weaponcraft 5
Kraanan 6
Riija 6
20 30 45 30 25 50 Heavy anti-magic focus, weapon-based DPS, reflections, Evil twin, and dement. This type of Pure Fighter has to sacrifice 15 precious stat points for the ability to completely shut down enemy Purging and Dazzling (as Dement is the only way to attack item-based spellpower like robies and ivies and both Purge and Dazzle still work decently under just AMA). This trade is more than worth it, however, as Riija 5 is the most powerful bang for your Intellect buck in the game. Riija pure fighters can employ reflections to add to their weapon DPS output, illusionary form to proc powerful poisons, illusionary firewall to hold ghosts, and illusionary wounds to get past otherwise high defenses (illusionary damage ignores resistances). In addition, Elusion so you can travel quickly to any of the 5 mainland towns as well as island. 98 mana with all nodes
Karma Bower Karma 5
Weaponcraft 5
Kraanan 5
20 20 40 25 45 50 CC and bowing at range. 50 Aim to ensure hits land and to add bow damage. Melee is best done with Fencing weapons as a result. 45 Mysticism for ample CC mana, although that can be dropped a bit in favor of Might or Agility depending on player preference.Use above stats if you plan to stay Duke or jonas shielded, however if you plan to be cess shielded with this build (primarily shals only) drop mys 5 and put it in agil or might based on preference. All in all a very basic cookie cutter build that is easy to build. With the added rods the qor version of the build is very average with the shal being slightly above. THIS IS ONE OF THE RECOMMENDED BUILDS FOR A NEW OR RETURNING PLAYER FOR A FIRST TOON because it is easy and it can always be trinketed into one of the other builds without much issue. 128 mana with all nodes
Karma/Riija Bower Karma 5
Weaponcraft 5
Kraanan 6
Riija 6
24 50 40 1 35 50 Ah, the infamous Karma/Riija. Here is a build that is overpowered in a laundry list of ways. The character has everything needed to completely disable and destroy any enemy: Purge & Dazzle (which both work well under your own AMA), AMA/Dement, reflections + illusionary form to spam poison procs and arrows, and enough stat points left over to be at least a decent fighter. This is the build any new person should try, as it's powerful enough that player skill becomes less part of the equation. This build does high dps as well as the ability to cc with blind/hold/dazzle/purge. The downside is low agility because you really shouldn't sacrifice your damage or mana pool. The Qor variant is also better than it used to be due to upgrades to minion AI. The qor variant should get 6 qor instead of 6 kraanan for gaze and death rift as ama will hinder more than help in most situations. 113 mana with all nodes
Jala/Karma Bower Weaponcraft 5
Kraanan 5 or 6
Jala 6
Karma 5 or 6
20 50 40 15 25 50 This is a great for guild war as it will have ~270 mana before it will be run dry as well as decent agility and high aim for damage with bow and swords. Scim is also an option but will be in the same area damage wise as a sword without the range. This character is untility based and does not do as much dps as its riija counterparts but in the hands of an intelligent player even more deadly. 118 mana with all nodes plus 99% CM

True Hybrid

These rare characters use weapons and magic attacks interchangeably. They're not phased by AMA/Dement, because they'll just fire arrows at you, and they don't care about Winds/Sandstorm, because they'll just lightning bolt you.

Karma/Faren Bower Karma 5
Faren 5
Kraanan 5
Weaponcraft 5
30 40 40 5 35 50 This is a classic build whose stats have morphed quite a bit in recent times. This is one of the few true hybrid builds: this character is designed for DPS of any type, most likely in a group battle situation that changes often. A 50 Aim bow and Faren 5 allows for the full range of offensive capabilities, and the Karma school provides for CC as defense and disablement. This is the kind of character that swoops in and kills you with a surprise Blast of Fire when you thought Winds and Sandstorm were protecting you from arrows.
Q/F/R Glass Cannon PK Qor 5
Faren 6
Riija 6
Weaponcraft 5
29 50 1 40 40 40 This is an extremely rare build best operated as a PK, although it can hold its own in various situations at the hands of a veteran. The combination of high-level Faren and Riija creates an Elusioning Spore Burster, and, with Weaponcraft, the character can also deal any type of damage in the game. There will always be a weak point, and that weak point is what the character will use to log/kill someone.

Fighting Casters

These characters rely on magic for most fighting, but do have weapon options for use at opportune times. This can be rather advantageous for builds that are weak to anti-magic situations (like an AMA/Dement), or it can simply surprise opponents with a different kind of damage type altogether.

Agility Mage Karma 5
Faren 6
Kraanan 5
Weaponcraft 4
24 40 40 50 45 1 Magic-based DPS, decent magic-damage stats, and 50 agility + block, dodge, and parry. This type of mage is designed with high defense in mind, and is definitely far more suited for Shal'ille fighting styles. This mage goes Princess for the defense bonus, mana regen, and Faren and Shal spellpower. However, the 50 Agility and Weaponcraft 4 that are being used for defensive purposes also allows this character to equip a Scimitar without warning and lay down top-end melee damage on opponents that were probably geared up against elemental attacks. This character has the defense and melee damage of a Pure Fighter hidden within the core of a Shal/Faren mage. Scimitar attacks are, however, best suited for times when opponent defense is low, since this character will have problems with offense rating. Your gona want to get sporeburst first, whether you're going shal or qor, if you want shal just drop qor after you get spore and build shal.
Qor/Riija Mage Qor 5
Riija 5
Kraanan 5
Jala 6
Weaponcraft 2
40 50 40 20 45 5 This is an interesting build that you don't see often. This mage doesn't have Faren at all. Aim isn't as necessary as usual because Qor + Jala 6 will allow for plenty of Holding and Blinding while your reflections assist. If the enemy has too much defense, Riija offers illusionary attacks that ignore resists, as well as poison procs. Finally, the Qor portion of the build offers Splash of Acid and Acid Touch for those cases where the enemy has not prepared against acid damage. This characters puts together a variety of alternative options to overcome many of the issues facing both Qors and mages.

Pure Mages

Pure mages are those characters that will never lift a weapon. This type of build didn't even really exist until Open Source 103, except among glass cannon PKs that did not expect to actually fight built characters. Improvements to Jala and Faren and reduction of gear and spell resistances across the board made pure mages possible for the first time in decades.

Build Name Schools Mig Int Sta Agi Mys Aim Strategy
Classic Pure Mage Karma 5
Faren 5
Kraanan 5
Jala 6
30 50 40 29 50 1 Magic-based DPS, ~400 mana, and the stats to do fantastic damage with spells. This type of character uses Karma-based CC and deals damage with direct attack spells as much as possible. Mana Convergence allows attack spells to continue firing away despite Anti-magic Aura and/or Dement.
Riija Pure Mage Karma 5
Faren 5
Kraanan 5
Riija 4
WC 2
30 50 40 29 50 1 Magic-based DPS, and great stats for spell damage, although limited to only one full mana pool (~180) without Jala 6's Crystalize Mana. The aim of this character is a bit different than the classic pure mage. This character has Weaponcraft 2 for the 416 defense from Block and Dodge, as well as Riija 4 for Illusionary Wounds, Dement, and possibly Forget and Vertigo. This pure mage is not designed to be artillery, but rather a more survivable and varied debuffer and damager. This character might be employed in a guild war to debuff early and damage later in the battle. Anti-magic Aura shuts down this character pretty hard.
Anti-magic Mage Faren 6
Kraanan 6
Jala 6
Riija 4
30 50 40 29 50 1 Magic-based DPS, great stats for spell damage, and a ton of mana... but with an inverse design. This type of character is completely reliant on magic for fighting, but purposely casts Anti-magic Aura and Dement to shut down enemy casting, ideally in a trap involving Spore Burst or Spider Webs. The next step is to cast Mana Convergence, allowing attack spells to continue to be used. Some might call this a "Faren Pure Fighter," since it mimics the AMA/Dement anti-magic playstyle but replaces weapons with magic in a curious manner.
Q/F/R Glass Cannon Mage Qor 5
Faren 6
Riija 6
Kraanan 5
30 50 40 29 50 1 Magic-based DPS, great stats for spell damage, and the rare combination of high-level Qor, Faren, and Riija creates an Elusioning Spore Bursting mage that also has Kraanan to keep himself alive. This character is best operated as a PK, because a single Anti-magic Aura spells doom. Also its able to purchase Swap.
